Matthew James Entertainment Inc was built after more than a decade working inside the live event and wedding industry alongside some of the most established groups in the region. That time was spent learning how great events actually work from the inside. What elevates a room, what disrupts the flow, and where details truly matter.
Based in Chicago, Matthew James Orchestra was built from the ground up with a production-first mindset. Drawing on years of experience performing and leading ensembles at the highest level, the focus has always been on delivering orchestra-level live music that functions seamlessly within real-world event environments. From weddings and corporate events to private celebrations, every performance is shaped by the space, the timeline, and the people in the room, combining musical excellence with the structure, communication, and professionalism required in Chicago’s most demanding venues.
Founder, bandleader, and trombonist Matt Attfield holds a master’s degree in music from Northern Illinois University and has performed at the highest levels of the industry. His career includes collaborations with artists such as Seth MacFarlane, legendary drummer Bernard Purdie, and the Chicago Philharmonic. He's performed more than 500 events, from intimate private celebrations to international festivals on stages with audiences exceeding 60,000 people.
Despite that range, the turning point came offstage.
On his own wedding night, Matt experienced something he had spent years facilitating for others. Being a guest on the dance floor and feeling how music shaped the pace, emotion, and memory of the night clarified the role music plays in a truly great celebration. The magic was not just musicianship. It was intention, timing, and leadership.
